BERN, 2019, NOVEMBER 28 – Cameroon striker Vincent Aboubakar made a triumphant return to FC Porto’s starting lineup, scoring a brace to lead the Dragons to a 2-1 comeback win over BSC Young Boys in their UEFA Europa League clash.
This marked Aboubakar’s first start since suffering a serious injury in September 2018 during a league match against CD Tondela, where he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament, sidelining him for the remainder of the 2018/19 season. On Thursday, the 27-year-old reminded everyone of his talents, playing a key role in Porto’s fightback.
Porto fell behind early in Bern, conceding in the sixth minute. However, Aboubakar formed a potent partnership with Mali international Moussa Marega, whose two assists helped turn the match around. Aboubakar struck twice within a three-minute span, scoring in the 76th and 79th minute, securing a vital victory for the Portuguese side.
Aboubakar’s clinical finishing sealed Porto’s second win in Group G, propelling them to second place with seven points from five games. With this performance, the Cameroonian forward will aim to keep his momentum going when Porto hosts FC Paços de Ferreira on Monday. The Dragons will then turn their focus to their final Europa League group stage match against Feyenoord Rotterdam on 12 December.
