HARIMAU MUDA ADVANCES TO THE MERLION CUP FINAL WITH A 4-2 VICTORY OVER CAMBODIA

SINGAPORE, 2023, MARCH 24 – In the semi-finals of the 2023 Merlion Cup, the Harimau Muda (Malaysia’s U-22 team) defeated Cambodia U-22 4-2 at the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore. The Harimau Muda dominated the first half with an early goal by Haqimi Azim in the 13th minute, followed by a second goal by V. Ruventhiran in the 30th minute, leaving the Cambodian team trailing behind.

However, Cambodia regrouped and managed to close the gap with a goal by Lim Pisoth in the 36th minute. Malaysian goalkeeper Rahadiazli Rahalim fumbled the ball on the ground, allowing the Cambodian winger to capitalise and score for his team. Cambodia then equalised in the 50th minute through captain Sieng Chanthea, taking advantage of a defensive mishap from the Malaysian team at the start of the second half.

Despite the setback, the Harimau Muda regained the lead in the 62nd minute with a goal by Fergus Tierney, and then sealed their victory with Najmudin Akmal‘s goal in the 73rd minute, ending the match 4-2 in their favour.

With this victory, the Harimau Muda secured their place in the finals of the Merlion Cup, where they will face Hong Kong on Sunday.
