2024, JULY 08 – Manchester United FC are poised to bring Ruud van Nistelrooy on board as a coach under Erik ten Hag. According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, van Nistelrooy is already in Manchester and has signed a two-year contract with the club. The Dutch football legend is expected to be formally introduced as part of the coaching team soon.
The Red Devils recently extended ten Hag’s contract, reaffirming their commitment to the Dutch manager. In a bid to ensure stability and forward planning, United are bolstering ten Hag’s support team with new coaching appointments.
As part of a comprehensive overhaul of ten Hag’s backroom staff, United have recruited both van Nistelrooy and René Hake as coaches. Additionally, new goalkeeping coach Jelle ten Rouwelaar has already started his tenure. The club will announce these appointments officially once the necessary working visas are obtained.
Hake will be joining from Go Ahead Eagles, where he led the team to a ninth-place finish in the Eredivisie last season. Hake previously worked with ten Hag at the youth level at FC Twente.
Van Nistelrooy’s return to United comes 18 years after he left for Real Madrid CF. He fills a coaching void left by Benni McCarthy and former first-team coach Eric Ramsay, who departed earlier this year to manage Major League Soccer (MLS) side Minnesota United FC.
Van Nistelrooy, a familiar name to United fans, had a memorable playing career at Old Trafford. Since retiring, he has carved out a successful coaching career, including winning the KNVB Beker as manager of PSV Eindhoven in 2023. He had been in discussions to become the manager of Burnley FC but ultimately decided to join the new setup at United.
