LION CITY SAILORS TO COMPETE AGAINST TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR IN TIGER CUP ON JULY 26

SINGAPORE, 2023, JULY 12 Lion City Sailors FC, the top football club in Singapore, will participate in the Tiger Cup on 26 July, facing off against Tottenham Hotspur FC. This event will showcase Singapore football as part of the Singapore Festival of Football Driven by CDG Zig. The Lion City Sailors will replace AS Roma and join other renowned clubs such as Liverpool FC, Leicester City FC, and FC Bayern Munich for an exciting week of football at the National Stadium.

The change in schedule is due to the cancellation of AS Roma’s Korean tour leg, leading to adjustments in their pre-season plans. Ticket holders who had seats in the AS Roma section for the match on 26 July will receive automatic refunds. However, existing Tiger Cup tickets remain valid, and those who hold them can request a refund by 12 noon on 21 July if desired. Tickets for any of the three matches can be purchased at https://bit.ly/sfof-23.

Geoff Jones, Group CEO of TEG, expressed his satisfaction with the inclusion of the Lion City Sailors in the Tiger Cup, highlighting their support and contribution to the success of the Singapore Festival of Football Driven by CDG Zig. He also emphasised the excitement of having them participate on the field, as it presents a unique blend of local and foreign playing styles.

Forrest Li, Chairman of the Sailors, mentioned that playing against a top team like Tottenham Hotspur provides an opportunity for the Sailors to better prepare for the upcoming AFC Champions League (ACL). Li also expressed hope that the match would attract Spurs’ fans and generate interest in the local football league.

Donna-Maria Cullen, Executive Director of Tottenham Hotspur, shared the club’s enthusiasm for returning to Singapore during their 2023 Asia-Pacific Tour. She highlighted the passionate fanbase they have in Singapore and expressed excitement for the match against the Lion City Sailors, considering it a great experience for their fans to witness Spurs playing against Singapore’s leading club side at the National Stadium.
