BAIHAKKI IS A WARRIOR

SINGAPORE, 2017, JANUARY 17 – As announced on Baihakki Khaizan’s Instagram page, the Lions’ defender will make a return to domestic football with 9-time S.League champions, Warriors Football Club.

“There were offers (from other S.League clubs) but talks fell through. Warriors came up at this point in time, putting their trust in me, and I believe that we want to work towards the same goal – to win the S.League title,” he added.

The 32-year-old was released from Malaysian second tier side Johor Darul Ta’zim II at the end of last season, and on Monday he penned a one-year deal to sort out his immediate future.

“I felt thankful that I could carry on playing even during these uncertain times. I almost quit the game and this is like a lifeline for me,” a relieved Baihakki told Playmaker.

Baihakki last played in S.League for Geylang United (currently known as Geylang International FC) in 2008 and 2009, before heading to Indonesia to join Persija Jakarta. He then turned out for PERSIB Bandung and Medan Chiefs.

His return to Singapore in 2012 saw him donning the colours of the now-defunct LionsXII, a Singapore side that was part of the Malaysian Super League. Baihakki has since plied his trade in domestic leagues in Malaysia before parting ways with Johor Darul Ta’zim II.

“I would like to say a big thank you to all my Johorean fans who really made me feel at home across the Causeway, but in football, it’s only natural we would have to part ways someday,” said Baihakki.

“I would also like thank Warriors FC for welcoming me into their family.”
