2025, JANUARY 07 – Tottenham Hotspur FC has exercised the option to extend Son Heung-min’s contract by a year, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2026. This move effectively ends any speculation surrounding the forward’s immediate future. The 32-year-old, whose previous deal was set to expire at the end of this season, joined Spurs in 2015 from Bayer 04 Leverkusen and has since cemented his status as a club legend.
Son has made 431 appearances and scored 169 goals for Tottenham, making him the fourth-highest scorer in the club’s history. Named captain by Ange Postecoglou in August 2023, the South Korean international has delivered countless iconic moments, including scoring the first-ever goal at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and his memorable solo effort against Burnley FC, which won the FIFA Puskas Award in 2020.
While there had been speculation about a potential long-term extension, Tottenham opted to activate a clause in Son’s 2021 deal, ensuring his stay for at least another season. Set to celebrate a decade at the club this summer, Son continues to be a pivotal figure both domestically and internationally, captaining South Korea with 131 caps and 51 goals.
