SINGAPORE, 2024, SEPTEMBER 12 – The much-anticipated FIBA Intercontinental Cup 2024 tipped off with a bang at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on 12 September, marking the tournament’s most globally diverse edition. Six teams from six continents are competing for the prestigious title, and over 2,500 spectators enjoyed free access to watch the action on the opening day. Fans were treated to thrilling games, including NBA G League United’s 78-65 victory over Quimsa, and Unicaja’s commanding 94-78 win against Petro de Luanda.
For the first time in the competition’s 34-edition history, teams from all five FIBA regions are represented. Oceania’s first-ever team, the Tasmania JackJumpers, will make their historic debut on 13 September against Quimsa. The second match of the day will feature Spain’s Unicaja facing Al Riyadi, champions of the inaugural Basketball Champions League Asia.

Each group plays in a round-robin format, with the group winners advancing to the Final on 15 September. The runners-up will contest the 3rd-Place Game, while the third-placed teams will play for fifth.
Adding to the event’s global prestige, the FIBA Hall of Fame Class of 2024 induction ceremony will take place in Singapore on 14 September. Headlining the inductees are USA’s Reggie Miller and Serbia’s Predrag Stojaković, alongside other basketball legends such as China’s Miao Lijie, Croatia’s Danira Nakic-Bilić, and New Zealand’s Kirk Penney.
