JALAN BESAR STADIUM TO REPLACE ARTIFICIAL TURF WITH NATURAL GRASS FOR AFC COMPLIANCE

SINGAPORE, 2025, JUNE 20Jalan Besar Stadium will undergo major renovations as its artificial turf will be replaced with a natural grass surface to meet updated Asian Football Confederation (AFC) competition standards. Work is scheduled to begin in August 2025 after the Soccer 7s Series and is expected to be completed by January 2026.

The AFC recently banned the use of fully artificial surfaces in major competitions, including the FIFA World Cup and AFC Asian Cup qualifiers, AFC Champions League (ACL) Elite and Two, as well as the AFC Women’s Champions League.

With Jalan Besar unavailable and Bishan Stadium also undergoing upgrades, Lion City Sailors FC and BG Tampines Rovers FC may be required to start their 2025/26 ACL Two Group-Stage campaigns with away fixtures.

The changes will also impact the 2025/26 Singapore Premier League season, with matches temporarily relocated to Jurong East Stadium and Our Tampines Hub until Bishan and Jalan Besar are ready to host games again.
