LaLiga’s educational project will open its doors to offer postgraduate courses in October this year
2018, FEBRUARY 09 – LaLiga Business School is here. Developed and fostered by LaLiga, as part of a collaboration with the King Juan Carlos University (URJC) and the Centro de Estudios Garrigues, this new educational centre will open its doors in October 2018 to educate prospective sports management professionals.
LaLiga Business School, which was revealed to the world today at LaLiga’s headquarters, will initially offer three courses: MBA in Sports Business & Law and two master’s degrees in Law Applied to Professional Football and in Football Management, Methodology and Analysis. The MBA in Sports Business & Law will be taught in English and has been conceived through a collaboration with the Centro de Estudios Garrigues. The master’s in Law Applied to Professional Football and in Football Management, Methodology and Analysis will hold official accreditation from Rey Juan Carlos University.
During the launch ceremony, LaLiga president Javier Tebas stressed that “this project reasserts LaLiga’s commitment to professionalising the sporting sector and, in tune with our slogan, ‘It’s not football, it’s LaLiga’, this puts us at the forefront of all leagues, not just in sporting terms but in educational standards too.”
For his part, the director of the Centro de Estudios Garrigues, Felix Plaza, noted that “the centre has already enjoyed a fruitful academic collaboration with LaLiga under the framework of the SBA Program in Sports Management”. “We’d like to welcome LaLiga to the educational community and we wish them – and foresee them having – every success in this field,” he went on.
“Supporting sporting culture within the university is part of the URJC’s plans to help instil it within society,” added Javier Ramos, his Excellency the chancellor of King Juan Carlos University, after signing the agreement between the institutions.
The courses will offer both theoretical and practical elements, to be taught by a combination of top- notch professors and reputable industry professionals. These include Javier Tebas himself; LaLiga’s corporate managing director, Javier Gomez; the former president of the High Council for Sport, Miguel Cardenal, who is a professor of Labour Law and Social Security; Ramon Monchi Rodriguez, AS Roma’s sporting director; Fernando Sanz, the former Real Madrid and Malaga CF player and ex-Malaga president, who is now LaLiga’s general director for the MENA region and the director of LaLiga’s ambassadors and legends initiatives; the head of women’s football competitions at FIFA, Pedro Malabia; and a whole host of other sports management professionals from LaLiga teams and international bodies.
The director of the LaLiga Business School, Jose Moya, explained during the ceremony that “these courses are suitable for both Spanish and international students, will be taught face-to-face and will be given from the LaLiga headquarters in Madrid, but we also aim to collaborate with overseas universities to develop courses there, since the education on offer has a global scope.”
As part of their education at LaLiga Business School, students will delve into real-life case studies of what LaLiga deals with on a day-to-day basis and visit Spanish and international sporting institutions to get a first-hand look at their business tactics and practices. They will also have the option of taking an internship at the end of the course.
Enrolment in the courses is now open through the school’s website (business-school.laliga.es) and thanks to Santander Bank, LaLiga Santander and LaLiga 1|2|3’s main sponsor, students will be able to receive funding for the course fees.
