JOHOR BAHRU, 2025, JUNE 03 – DPMM FC is now ready to spice up the Malaysian League competition after the professional club from Brunei signed a participation agreement with the Malaysian Football League (MFL) for a duration of three seasons starting from the 2025–2026 season.
The DPMM FC Participation Signing Ceremony in the Malaysian League 2025–2028 was held symbolically at Thistle Hotel, Johor Bahru, on 3 June 2025.
Acting Chief Executive Officer of MFL, Mr. Mohd Shazli Shaik Mohd, and General Manager of DPMM FC, Mr. Md Ali Haji Momin, signed the participation agreement, witnessed by MFL President, Dato’ Ab Ghani Hassan, along with DPMM FC Marketing Manager, Mr. Momin Md Jaafar.
This agreement confirms that DPMM FC will officially compete in the Malaysia Super League from the 2025–2026 season, marking the club’s return to the country’s professional football scene after last featuring in the Super League in 2008.
Malaysia and Brunei share a deep footballing history, with Brunei first participating in the Malaysia Cup in 1979 and later entering the Semi-Pro League in 1989.
Brunei notably won the 1999 Malaysia Cup, defeating Sarawak 2-1 at Merdeka Stadium, Kuala Lumpur. Later, DPMM FC joined the Malaysia Super League and achieved their best league finish of third place in the 2005–2006 season.
This partnership is part of MFL’s initiative to strengthen the competitive value of the league while also celebrating bilateral collaboration in regional football development and enhancing ASEAN football unity.
