A GLORIOUS TRIBUTE TO SAFEE SALI AT SULTAN IBRAHIM STADIUM

2023, FEBRUARY 24 – On 21 February 2023, former Malaysian national team player Safee Sali announced his retirement from professional football. Three days later, on 24 February, he was given the opportunity to say goodbye to fans of Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium before the 2023 Piala Sumbangsih match between JDT and Terengganu FC kicked off.

Safee was a highly decorated football player, having won multiple Super League, FA Cup, and Malaysia Cup titles during his 19-year career in the M-League.

He is also the only Malaysian to feature in the AFC Cup final twice, winning it with JDT in 2015 and finishing runners-up with Kuala Lumpur City FC last year.

In addition to his impressive club achievements, Safee Sali also had a successful career with the Malaysian national team. He was part of the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup winning side and won the Golden Boot at the same edition.

Safee made a total of 74 appearances with the Harimau Malaya, his last appearance coming in a goalless draw with Philippines in 2017. He scored 24 international goals for Malaysia, cementing his status as one of the country’s most prolific scorers.
