PETALING JAYA, 2024, MAY 07 – Following an acid attack, footballer Faisal Halim underwent a four-hour surgical procedure, but his injuries may necessitate further interventions.
The Selangor FC and Malaysia National Team winger initially underwent surgery on the night of the 5 May attack. However, subsequent assessments indicate that additional surgical procedures will be required.
Originally diagnosed with second-degree burns, Faisal’s condition has worsened to fourth-degree burns. Despite his stable but concerning condition, he has lost sensation in his left arm, indicating the likelihood of further surgeries.
Post-surgery, Faisal’s communication abilities are impaired, requiring a ten-day stay in the intensive care unit (ICU). Hospitalisation for three to four weeks is anticipated for his recovery.
The acid attack occurred at a shopping mall in Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya. Although a man in his 20s has been arrested, the motive behind the attack remains unknown. A second suspect was detained on 6 May.
On 2 May, another troubling incident unfolded as fellow national team winger and Terengganu FC player Akhyar Rashid fell victim to assault and robbery near his residence in Kuala Terengganu.
