ULSAN, 2024, JULY 05 – Defending K League 1 champions Ulsan HD FC have announced that Martin Ádám, the burly Hungarian striker who went viral at UEFA EURO 2024, is set to depart.
During the Euros’ opening weekend, fans dubbed Ádám, an “absolute unit,” with posters humorously comparing him to a Viking movie actor or a nightclub bouncer among other viral memes.
Ulsan, back-to-back K League 1 champions, have terminated Ádám’s contract, cutting it two years short.
The club paid a $1.2 million transfer fee to bring Ádám from Paksi FC, a top-tier Hungarian league team, in July 2022 on a four-year deal. This remains the highest amount Ulsan has spent on a foreign player since the K League adopted its current two-tier format in 2013.
Ádám made his Ulsan debut in August 2022 as a center forward and has scored 24 goals in 67 appearances across all competitions. However, his playing time diminished after the club signed veteran striker Joo Min-kyu.
