2024, JUNE 14 – The Lion City Sailors Women’s Team, dominant in the Deloitte Women’s Premier League with two unbeaten title-winning seasons, are ready for their first Asian adventure starting 25 August.
First, they’ll tackle the preliminary stage, competing against 14 clubs from lower-ranked nations in pools hosted by Jordan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and Thailand from 25 to 31 August.
Other teams in this stage include Sabah (Malaysia), Al-Nassr (Saudi Arabia), and Etihad (Jordan). The pool winners will advance to the group stage, joining top clubs like Japan’s Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies and Australia’s Melbourne City.
The group stage will be hosted by China, Vietnam, and one more nation. The top two teams from each group and the best third-placed finishers will move on to the quarter-finals.
The official draw for the Preliminary Stage and Group Stage will be held in at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) headquarters in Kuala Lumpur on 18 July.
In this revamped competition, group stage teams will each receive US$100,000, with champions earning at least US$1.3 million – the biggest prize in Asian women’s club football!
